Bursom Recycling Centre Launch Competition - 15th June to 15th July 2004

Leicester’s new 30 million pound Biffa Leicester Recycling Centre, aims to reduce the amount of materials sent to landfill by 75% making Leicester one of the best cities in UK for recycling and recovery of household waste, when it becomes fully operational at the end of July. This means that rubbish from residents’ wheelie bins will no longer be taken straight to landfill; instead, it will be taken to the Ball Mill and go through mechanical processes to recover various materials. After being ground down by 42 tonnes’ of ‘canon-balls’, (in what looks like a giant washing-machine drum) the waste will pass through a series of screening processes to separate out:

· Metals for recycling
· Paper, plastic and wood, which will be used as an alternative fuel in cement kilns
· Organic materials, including cardboard and kitchen waste, for composting

Win £100
To celebrate the official opening of the new Ball Mill we are holding a competition and the winner will receive £100. Not only that, but also, the lucky winner and a friend will be invited to the opening of the Ball Mill to be awarded the prize by our Guest of Honour.

How to play
Here’s how to play our two-part competition:
· Tell us, in no more than ten words, why you think that the new Ball Mill is important to the city of Leicester
· Give the Ball Mill a name

Competition Rules: This competition is only open to residents of Leicester. Only 1 entry per household is allowed. Last date for entries is 15th July 2004. All entries must clearly state the answer, name, address and telephone number of the entrant. Winners will be notified by post or telephone. Acceptance of prize constitutes consent to use winners picture and name for advertising and publicity purposes. The winner will be invited to the opening ceremony of our new recycling centre and will be awarded the prize by our guest of honour.
