Educational Resources

Biffa Leicester is keen to work with Schools in order to provide educational resources about recycling, waste and to help children (and their parents/guardians) understand what happens to the waste in Leicester.

  • Information flyers are available.
  • The recycling team are available to visit schools (assist with lessons/assemblies) to talk about waste and recycling in Leicester.
  • Schools can visit the education facility located at Leicester's recycling plant (Beaumont Leys) and see the Ball Mill in action.

What happens to the material collected from schools?

Cardboard collected from schools is taken directly to a local company where it is recycled into new cardboard. Recycled cardboard is primarily used to make boxes and other packaging, but has a range of other uses, including stationary, animal bedding and coffins.

Waste collected from Leicester schools is not directly sent to landfill but is taken to Leicester's Recycling Plant and fed into the Ball Mill, whereby approximately 70% is diverted from landfill.
